Country Program Summary Portfolio Details

Benin

Country program established 1986. Program focuses on agricultural sector, providing support to primarily to producers and processors of consumables for the local and export markets.

Botswana

Country program established 1989. Program focus is on the development of small and medium sized enterprises, particularly high potential ecotourism projects. Program is strengthened through a strategic partnership with the Government of Botswana.

Burundi

Country presence established 2008. (re-entry since 1994). Program focus on capacity building of local NGOs and rural communities to manage income generating activities, assisting small scale farmer associations with value-added production, and promoting development of small-scale and medium enterprises particularly in the agricultural sector.

Cape Verde

Country program established 1986. Program focus is on the development of small enterprises, particularly those focusing on substitution of imported foodstuffs and with export potential.

Ghana

Country program established 1984. Focus is on export-oriented enterprise development. Under a US$5 million cofunding partnership with the Government of Ghana.

Guinea

Country program established 1986. Program focuses on social enterprises that address the provision of primary needs (water, education, healthcare). Priority also placed on agricultural enterprises that improve food security.

Liberia

Current country program established 2006 in response to Presidential request (re-entry;
former program established 1984). Program supports small and medium-sized enterprises
(SMEs), particularly infrastructure and natural resource sectors

Country program established 1984. Program focuses on enterprise development, with an emphasis on small and mediumsized enterprises, agroproducers and processors.

New country program beginning in 2008.

Namibia Country program established 1993. Program focuses on small enterprise development, particularly projects with export potential. Current portfolio comprises 3 investment projects. No new projects are being accepted at this time.

Niger

Country program established 1984. Focus on communitybased programs. Despite vast, sparsely populated desert terrain, USADF has maintained a presence throughout the country, including extremely remote Diffa and Bilma.

Nigeria

Country program established 2001. Currently active in two northern states: Kano and Kaduna. Program expansion through strategic partnerships with state governments and private corporations. Initial focus of country program on microfinance programs, which have demonstrated success and act as models for others. Cofunded (by state government) support low cost housing in Kano State.

Rwanda

Current country program established 2005 (reentry; country presence prior to 1994). Program
focuses on grassroots organizations engaged or with the potential to engage in international trade.
Senegal Country program established 1986. Program focuses on small and medium sized enterprises, particularly projects with high export potential.
Swaziland Country program established in 2003. Program focus is on the development of social enterprises and small businesses, particularly agricultural enterprises and those that improve food security.

Tanzania

Country program established 1986. Focus is on export-oriented enterprise development, with an emphasis on agricultural and agro processing activities. Tanzania also participates in the USADF Buyer Linakage Program.

Uganda

Country program established 1992. Focus is on export-oriented enterprise development, with an emphasis on agricultural, agro processing, and SME activities.

Zambia

Country program established 1984 and restarted in 2004. Current portfolio focuses providing support to small farmer associations and cooperatives including export oriented agricultural enterprises, and organic farming.
