The Problem of Solder Bridging

During the fabrication of solder interconnects one must be concerned about the formation of accidentental bridges between contacts, which can render an electrical device useless. Using Surface Evolver Program (At Geometry Center) I, along with Craig Carter and Dan Josell have been examining the problem of solder bridging. Below are the results in a variety of formats. If you want to play with the file which generated these results click here
  • Bridging occurs, poor refinement Poor refinement
  • Bridging occurs, better refinement Better refinement
  • Bridging occurs, great refinement Great refinement
  • Bridge about to break, Bridge about to break
  • Broken bridge. Broken bridge
