Vision

The Division of Aging and Adult Services (AAS) will efficiently and effectively provide human services in support of independent living, self-sufficiency, safety and dignity goals. These goals are on behalf of adults age 18 and over who have disabilities or functional impairments or are otherwise at risk. As a Division, we act upon Colorado Department of Human Service's vision to be the nation's leader in helping individuals, families and communities to be safe and independent.

Mission

The Division's mission is to assist recipients to live safely with maximum personal independence by planning and promoting an effective, integrated, accessible delivery system.

Program Units within the Division of Aging and Adult Services

The Division of Aging and Adult Services provides oversight for and coordination of programs that allow the elderly and adults with disabilities to live independently. These programs are administered through the County Departments of Social (Human) Services or through regional Area Agencies on Aging.

Division Director

Provides oversight to the State Unit on Aging, Adult Financial, and Adult Protective Services units. The Director's office acts as the liaison between the Governor's office, stakeholders and the Colorado Commission on Aging. Statewide reports, surveys, and needs assessments are coordinated through the Director's office, as well.

State Unit on Aging

Provides oversight to the regional Area Agencies on Aging (AAA), which provide services and community education programs for seniors ages 60 and older. Services and programs include:

• Nutrition Services
• Transportation Services
• Information and Referral
• National Family Caregiver Support
• Elder Abuse Prevention
• Legal Assistance
• In-home Services Program for Frail Elderly
• Disease Prevention & Health Promotion
• Long Term Care Ombudsman
• Community Based Services
• Senior Community Services Employment

Adult Financial

Provides oversight for financial assistance programs for adults age 18 and older that are administered by the County Departments of Social (Human) Services, including:

• Old Age Pension (OAP)
• State Burial Assistance
• Aid to the Needy Disabled (AND)
• Aid to the Blind (AB)
• AND/AB Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - Colorado Supplement

Adult Protective Services

Provides intervention with or on behalf of at-risk adults age 18 and over to correct or alleviate situations in which actual or imminent danger of abuse, neglect or exploitation exists, and to utilize available support systems to provide continuing safety from incidents of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Colorado Commission on Aging

The Commission was established in 1964 to inform and advise decision makers and to advocate for the quality of life of all seniors.
