EPA Report on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency

On August 2, 2007 and in response to Public Law 109–431 PDF (31KB) the U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Program released to Congress a report assessing opportunities for energy efficiency improvements for government and commercial computer servers and data centers in the United States. Please note that this document is considered final and therefore, EPA is not taking any additional comments on the report at this time.

On Thursday August 9, 2007 EPA hosted a Web based discussion on its Report to Congress on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency Opportunities.

Draft Report to Congress on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency

On April 23, 2007, EPA released a draft of the Report to Congress on Data Center and Server Energy Efficiency. Over the two weeks following this release stakeholders provided many useful comments on the draft, and the comment period closed on May 7.

Stakeholder Workshop to Discuss EPA Report to Congress

EPA and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory held a workshop for industry stakeholders to brainstorm and discuss the requirements of HR5646 and approaches to developing the report for Congress. This workshop explored current and emerging issues within the datacenter, including those related to IT equipment efficiency, power and cooling infrastructure, facility operation and management, and voluntary measures.
