SAMHSA Grant Writing Workshop for Faith- and Community-Based Organizations

On March 21 and 22, 2005, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), will convene the SAMHSA Grant Writing Workshop for Faith- and Community-Based Organizations in Silver Spring, Maryland. The workshop will consist of two simultaneous tracks for representatives of faith- and community-based organizations to learn about writing a strong and compliant grant application. Because the goal of the workshop is to increase the number of faith- and community-based organizations applying for and receiving SAMHSA grants, the training will focus on grant opportunities at SAMHSA. Each of the two tracks, Grant Writing I and Grant Writing II, can accommodate a maximum of 50 participants.

WHERE AND WHEN IS THE WORKSHOP?

The workshop will take place at the Hilton Washington DC/Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Maryland. It will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, and end at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005.

HOW DO I REGISTER?

Registration for this event is closed.

WHICH TRACK DO I REGISTER FOR?

SAMHSA is offering the workshop in two tracks. Grant Writing I will be aimed at organizations that have written grant applications but have not been successful at receiving grant awards. This track will address topics such as researching issues relevant to a grant and pulling together data to include in the application. Grant Writing II will be geared toward organizations that have written some winning grant applications but have not been successful at receiving SAMHSA grants. This track will help participants “fine tune” their applications so they can receive SAMHSA grants and also improve their overall success rate.

HOW MANY PEOPLE FROM MY ORGANIZATION CAN REGISTER?

Currently, SAMHSA has not set a limit for the number of people who can attend from the same organization. Anyone who meets the criteria may register, and registration will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, if interest in the workshop dramatically exceeds the number of slots available, your organization may be asked to select the most appropriate representatives to attend.

All attendees must be pre-registered individually, so please distribute this information to all the staff that will be attending the workshop.

HOW MUCH IS THE REGISTRATION FEE?

The registration fee for the workshop is $50 per person. You may prepay your registration fee or pay when you arrive at the event. When you complete your registration form online, please indicate whether you will pay in advance or onsite/

When you register online, you will be prompted to print a confirmation page to enclose in the envelope with your check. If your organization is sending a check for multiple participants, please include this printed confirmation for each person covered by the check.
