Wyoming Office of the Governor - Dave Freudenthal

Children and Families Initiative

The Children and Families Initiative (CFI) may define one of the most significant actions being taken to assure a positive future for the families who will live in and lead this state in the coming years.  For over two years a dedicated and hard-working group of citizens, parents, teachers and many others have discussed the needs of Wyoming families and their children.  The results from that discussion, and the input provided by Wyoming residents across the state, are included in the final report of the Children and Families Initiative.

Governor Freudenthal put this far-reaching plan into action with three legislative proposals.  Those proposals emphasize the importance of early investment in our youth, future workforce needs, maximizing the investment we are already making in the K-12 education system and taking preventive steps to stem serious social problems including drug and alcohol abuse.

For too long attention has been focused on the problems confronting our families and children and too little time has been spent on the grassroots efforts needed to bring about solutions.  The Children and Families Initiative was launched in the spring of 2004 as a call to statewide action to improve the lives of Wyoming people.
