Our Mission
The Substance Abuse Program Office is dedicated to the development of a comprehensive system of prevention, emergency/detoxification, and treatment services for individuals and families at risk of or affected by substance abuse; to promote their safety, well-being, and self-sufficiency.

Our Vision
The Substance Abuse Program Office works closely with the Office of Drug Control, on the development of initiatives, strategies, and performance measures to reduce to less than 50 percent by the year 2005, the incidence of drug abuse among Florida's citizens through the means of evidence-based prevention services, improved access to effective treatment services, and strengthening the substance abuse service delivery system.

Our Strategies
  • Develop and implement effective prevention and treatment strategies.
  • Improve outcomes and the quality of services.
  • Promote systems approaches that enhance integration.
  • Provide sufficient capacity for the most vulnerable clients.

Who We Are
Florida's publicly funded Substance Abuse Program is part of The Department of Children and Families. The Substance Abuse Program is one of several programs located centrally in Tallahassee. In addition there are Substance Abuse and Prevention Coordinators throughout Florida, within the department's district and regional Alcohol Abuse and Mental Health offices.

FAQ
We have provided basic information on alcohol and other major drugs. A person using any substance may not experience any of the common symptoms. Although a person may exhibit one or more of these symptoms, it does not mean they are using drugs. All of the symptoms listed also pertain to other physical and psychological illnesses. We suggest that you refer to our Links and Resources for a more complete listing on the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of these and other drug abuse and misuse.
