State and Local Employment Resources for South Dakota

Program will take place September 30-October 2 in Sioux Falls and will address options for education, vocational rehabilitation and adult services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Individuals who are blind or visually impaired, family members, students, teachers and professionals in education, rehabilitation and independent living are encouraged to attend.

Provides individualized rehabilitation services that result in optimal employment and independent living outcomes for citizens who are blind or visually impaired.

Promotes best practices in hiring, retaining and marketing to people with disabilities. A statewide employer-led coalition of business, government and community organizations working to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Assists citizens of South Dakota in obtaining services and support in the areas of substance abuse and prevention, developmental disabilities, mental health, vocational rehabilitation and services to the blind and visually impaired.

Provides services and programs to help individuals with disabilities obtain employment, economic self-sufficiency, personal independence and full inclusion into society.

Provides specialized services for seniors to improve their quality of life, including case management, adult day care programs, housing services, senior employment programs, transportation services, in-home services, healthcare and advocacy services.

Each center provides career counseling, resume assistance, direct job placement, classroom and on-the-job training, and information about local and national labor markets and unemployment compensation.

Supported by state vocational rehabilitation agencies and the local school districts, Project Skills is a paid work experience program for high school students with disabilities in South Dakota.
