2009 Paul G. Hearne Leadership Awards

Through the Paul G. Hearne Leadership Awards, the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) recognizes outstanding individuals that personify leadership, advocacy and dedication to and for the disability community at large. Residents of the U.S. with any type of disability are eligible to apply, and are required to complete the Application Instructions and Procedures. The application deadline is September 30, 2008.

2008 Southwest Conference on Disability

Conference will take place October 1-3, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM and will allow people with disabilities, service providers, disability organizations and representatives from government agencies to network and discuss best practices.

2008 NCD Public Meetings

National Council on Disability's (NCD) last quarterly meeting of the year will be held October 6-8 in Kansas City, MO. These meetings are open to the public and free of charge.

2008 Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL) Conference

The 14th Annual National Conference on Rural Independent Living will take place October 11-13, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV.

2008 National Conference on Disability Inclusion & National Service

This conference is being sponsored by the National Service Inclusion Project (NSIP). Through training and technical assistance, NSIP works to ensure meaningful volunteer service experiences for all Americans, regardless of their abilities. This year's conference, Acting Today to Shape the Future, will be held in Alexandria, VA from October 16-18. Click here to register for the conference.

Partnerships in Emergency Preparedness Workshops

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is hosting workshops throughout the country to engage people interested in homeland security, including the private sector, governmental agencies and non-profit groups, in a partnership to develop a national culture of preparedness. These workshops are scheduled as follows: Washington, DC (June 24, 2008), Chicago, IL (July 2008), Los Angeles, CA (August 2008), New York City (September 2008), Columbus, OH (October 2008) and San Juan, PR (November 2008).

Interim Emergency Management Planning Guide for Special Needs Populations

A guide for state, territorial, tribal and local emergency managers to use in the development of emergency operations plans (EOPs) that are inclusive of the entire population of a jurisdiction of any size.
