NATIONAL POLICY ISSUANCE #99-01

SUBJECT: Mission Statement

A. What is the mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service? Our mission is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

B. Why is the mission statement being revised? This statement emphasizes the significance of working with others to protect our resources, including plants, and recognizes the importance of benefiting the American people who establish the authorities and appropriate the funds for Service activities.

C. Does this issuance supersede other policy documents? This issuance supersedes National Policy Issuance #98-05, June 4, 1998.
