Our coastal and ocean landscape is changing, whether it's the climate, shoreline, habitat, or even the people setting and implementing policy. Join us for Coastal Zone 09 in Boston, Massachusetts, as we explore the many facets of change and share tools and information to help in managing our changing coastal and ocean resources.

You are invited to submit an abstract of 500 words or less. All abstracts must be submitted by Friday, November 21, 2008, via the on-line submission forms below. No faxed or paper abstracts will be accepted. All expenses involved in preparing and presenting papers are the responsibility of the presenters. All presenters are required to pay registration fees and all associated travel expenses.

Conference Tracks

Sessions will be organized around three conference tracks:

Within each track, presentations should emphasize one of four focus areas:

Submitting an Abstract

All submitted abstracts will be subject to peer review. There is limited space, so preference will be given to submitted abstracts that relate to one of the conference tracks and focus areas. Acceptance letters will be mailed in February 2009.

Accepted abstracts will be compiled, as submitted, into the conference proceedings. Authors should be sure to have their abstracts edited before submission, since there will be no opportunity to make updates or changes before being published in the proceedings.

Abstracts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (preferred) or Adobe PDF format as an attachment to the on-line submittal forms below. Please refer to the abstract submission guidelines (PDF, 14KB) for detailed document formatting requirements and to view a sample abstract.

To submit an abstract, please click on the applicable presentation type below. You may submit more than one abstract.

Oral Presentation
Submit an abstract to give a 20-minute oral presentation. The program committee will organize one-hour or one-and-a-half-hour concurrent sessions around the topics of accepted abstracts.

Panel Session
Submit an abstract to organize a concurrent panel session lasting one hour or one and a half hours. Panel sessions comprise three to four speakers and a session chair. Panel organizers are responsible for identifying speakers and session chair, although these speakers and chair do not need to be identified in the abstract. Invited speakers are required to pay registration fees and all associated travel expenses.

Café Conversation
Submit an abstract to organize a café conversation lasting two and a half hours. These sessions are designed to stimulate participation from the audience and cannot include formal presentations by speakers. Organizers will need to identify a specific topic for discussion and, through the use of various facilitation techniques, structure the session to promote audience interaction.

Training Session
Submit an abstract to organize a training session of three or six hours in length. All trainings will be held on Sunday, July 19. A training session is defined as one that has specific learning objectives and builds skills toward better coastal management.

Poster Presentation
Submit an abstract to present a poster on a specific topic. All posters will be on display from Monday afternoon, July 20, through Tuesday afternoon, July 21, with two events (evening reception and lunch) scheduled in the poster area. Authors are expected to be with their posters during both scheduled events to answer questions.
