MINExpo 2008: Mexico

  • The mining industry in Mexico continues to be one of the most important productive, industrial sectors in the economy. This sector provides 1.6 % of the Mexican GDP which in 2007, reached an amount of 9.5 billion dollars.
  • Foreign investment grew over 70% in 2007, reaching a figure of 2.2 billion dollars.
  • The Mining Industry Chamber (CAMIMEX) organizes a large congress-expo every two years. The last congress was held in the city of Veracruz last October. Attendance was very high and the exhibition was one of the largest ever held. Over 65 U.S. firms participated offering all types of mining, safety and security equipment, process control systems, communication systems, and especially, the newest technology in mine accident prevention and air quality measuring equipment.
  • Many of the companies that are registering for MINExpo2008 will be looking at new mining technologies, safety equipment, etc. It is a good opportunity for U.S. firms to offer these products.

In addition, US Commercial Service Mexico is organizing a seminar at MineExpo2008 in which several large Mexican mining companies and the Mexican Mining Chamber will make presentations and present a current overview of the mining industry. The seminar will be held on September 23, 2008, from 2-5pm.  Further information, including the agenda for the seminar, is included in the attached document Mexico Seminar MINExpo2008 Agenda on the right.
