"The President (Nixon's) recommendation to Congress...has been hailed as the most comprehensive space plan ever proposed...[It] emphasises six broad areas:"
- Continued exploration of the moon.
- Exploration of the planets and the universe.
- Development of reuseable space shuttles to reduce costs of major launches and to service a manned space laboratory.
- Extension of man's capability to function in space for increasingly longer periods of time.
- Expansion of the practical applications of space technology to the benefit of mankind.
- Encouragement of greater international cooperation in space.
