Rocky Mountain Fires

Numerous large wildfires are scorching the western United States in June. Firefighters in Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico are battling several large fires, including the 100,000+ acre Hayman Fire southwest of Denver, Colorado.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite detected these fires (red dots) burning in Utah (top left), Colorado (right), and New Mexico (lower right) on June 7, 2002. The New Mexico fire is the Ponil Complex Fire.
