The Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the field of Aerosol-Cloud-Radiation Observations. The position is available 1 January 2009. Hiring will be at the Assistant Professor level. Applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree in a related field and should demonstrate strong potential for outstanding research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program, maintain a strong publication record, and teach specialized undergraduate and graduate courses, which may include atmospheric instrumentation, aerosols, radiative transfer, or others in his/her core area of expertise.

Applications are invited in the area of field observation/laboratory measurement with emphasis on aerosol-cloud-radiation interaction. Applications from candidates with expertise in all areas of in-situ or remotely sensed aerosol-cloud-radiation and air quality measurements will be considered; however, expertise in surface, field, and laboratory measurements is especially desirable. The successful applicant may wish to take advantage of the availability of two experimental stations, one located near the coast and another in a mountainous site. Applicants who are able to collaborate with scientists at the nearby U.S. EPA for a variety of measurements and mechanistic studies on particle chemistry, dispersion, deposition, formation and growth, and exposure/health effects will be viewed favorably. The applicant’s research should complement NC State’s strong modeling capabilities in the areas of meteorology, air quality, climate and aerosol-cloud interaction, and he/she will work closely with the team members of a multi-disciplinary cluster. Opportunities exist for the successful candidate for disciplinary and interdisciplinary interactions with more than 30 other faculty in the marine, earth, and atmospheric sciences. Additional information about the department and its facilities can be found on our web page: http://www.meas.ncsu.edu.

Review of applications will begin 15 October 2008; the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.
