Market and Trade Data
Statistical Market Information
FAS offers several different databases for data on international agricultural trade. These databases are maintained by FAS and other U.S. government agencies. If you have any questions or comments about these databases, please send them to info@fas.usda.gov.

U.S. Agricultural Trade Outlook Forecast (05/29/08)
FAS provides summaries on the latest USDA quarterly forecasts for U.S. trade in agricultural products, and a link to the joint FAS/ERS publication "Outlook for U.S. Agricultural Trade." These outlook materials are updated in February, May, August and November. FAS trade estimates on fish and solid wood products are also available.

Agricultural Trade Monthly Summary

PS&Donline
The FAS Production, Supply and Distribution (PS&D) online database contains current and historical official USDA data on production, supply and distribution of agricultural commodities for the United States and key producing and consuming countries. Users may select from a menu of pre-defined tables categorized by commodity or commodity group.

Export Sales Database
This database allows users to search for information dating from Jan. 1, 1999, to the present, based on commodity and country of destination. Data typically will be updated on a weekly basis, usually Thursdays, with the release of the weekly export sales report. Additionally, the database will produce custom graphs showing outstanding sales and exports of a particular commodity by marketing year, as well as comparing data from the previous year and a 5-year average.

Import & Export Data
U.S. export/import data is available from FAS databases in two different forms:

  • BICO Reports provides bulk, intermediate, and consumer-oriented agricultural product data in both a calendar or fiscal year format.
  • U.S. Trade Reports provides a more comprehensive commodity by commodity breakdown of exports and imports over a two- or five-year period.
Databases of Foreign Agricultural Trade of the United States (FATUS) are available in MS Excel spreadsheet format from USDA's Economic Research Service. These include the following:
Agricultural Outlook: Statistical Indicators
The statistical indicators formerly provided in Agricultural Outlook magazine will continue to be updated regularly. These tables include data on individual commodities, the general economy, agricultural trade, farm income and expenses, farm prices, food prices and expenditures, and other statistical indicators of the food and agriculture system.

State Fact Sheets
State fact sheets provide information on population, employment, income, farm characteristics, farm financial indicators, and top commodities, exports, and counties for each state in the United States.

The Agricultural Market Access Database (AMAD)*
A collection of data and information for WTO members, AMAD primarily consists of tariff schedules, tariff bindings, country notifications, import quantities, applied tariff rates, and other data useful in tariff analysis. Based in MS Access™ and Excel™, AMAD is a publicly available information tool for the analysis of WTO market access issues in agriculture. The database currently contains data for 50 countries, including documentation and examples.
* AMAD results from a co-operative effort by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, EU Commission–Agriculture Directorate-General, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the World Bank, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and USDA–Economic Research Service.

Processed Food Export Groupings
Using aggregations that are meaningful to both professionals in the food industry and the public, processed food products and ingredients are assigned to 15 categories within the database. Each category has at least five, and as many as 14, subcategories of products that can be examined. Aggregations are available of particular 10-digit codes representing processed food products in Schedule B of the U.S. Harmonized Trade System, under which all U.S. trade data are originally collected by the Census Bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
