About the FDIC and DOF

The FDIC is an independent agency created by the Congress that maintains the stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system by insuring deposits, examining and supervising financial institutions, and managing receiverships.

The FDIC is listed in the top 25 of the “Best Places to Work in the Government for 2007” and was also rated #1 in pay and benefits among more than 200 comparable federal organizations.

DOF’s mission is to provide the FDIC with accounting, financial and employee services. As professionals, with support and service to our co-workers and clients, we are dedicated to the highest level of quality, accuracy, timely delivery and reliability in all our products. It is our vision that we remain a valued member of the FDIC team, a leader in corporate financial services, and a source of essential information bringing clarity to the future.

Qualifications and Requirements

DOF is looking for capable and self-motivated students, who are comfortable working in a professional setting with significant responsibility, possess a strong academic record, written and oral communication skills and a functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. In addition, applicants should have a sincere interest in the fields of accounting and finance.

We prefer interested candidates to carry a current GPA of 3.0, at a minimum, on a 4.0 grading scale, or equivalent.

FDIC’s Student Educational Employment Program offers two components.

  • The Student Career Employment Program (SCEP) provides students with the opportunity to obtain work experience that is directly related to their education and career goals, with a possibility of being converting to a competitive appointment within the FDIC at the completion of the program. This program requires a written working agreement between the student, school and FDIC.
  • The Student Employment Program (STEP) offers internships that do not need to be related to a student’s academic or career pursuits, but do not offer conversion to a competitive appointment.

Both programs offer a year-round program and appointments may be made at any time during the year. Proof of enrollment status in an accredited educational program, achievement, and suitability related documents may be requested to determine eligibility for the Student Educational Employment Program. Resumes will be reviewed to ensure you meet the qualifications described above.

U.S. citizenship is required and all applicants will be subject to a background investigation.
