K-12 Classroom Projects
(www-ed.fnal.gov/trc/projects/project_index.html) Teacher-developed projects designed to demonstrate principles of engaged learning and effective use of technology. Some are ready to use; others are appropriate to adapt for your classroom or may give you ideas for a project you want to develop. You may assess their merit using the rubric provided.THE NTEP Collection - K-8 Classroom Projects
Classroom projects from the National Teacher Enhancement Project. Projects are based on teaching/learning models that are analogous to the way scientists discover knowledge and solve problems. These models involve the use of immersion experiences called research scenarios. We disseminate some of them as online classroom projects for K-8 classrooms. Where appropriate, the projects incorporate student access to lab data and an opportunity to telecollaborate with other students.LInC Online
- Learning to Live in a Risky World
(www-ed.fnal.gov/ntep/f98/projects/sandia_mgb/index.html) K-8 students look at issues from multiple and empathetic perspectives in this introduction to the concept of Risk. The unit can be integrated into lessons in history, health, math, social science and/or science. Students learn how many of the things they do on a daily basis entail risk and gain insight into how to engage in risk analysis on a personal level and make decisions accordingly.
- Lewis and Clark in Washington
(www-ed.fnal.gov/ntep/f98/projects/pnnl/index.html) Elementary students investigate the shrub steppe habitat of Eastern Washington and compare their data to Lewis and Clark's journal entries of this area.
- The Seed Connection
(www-ed.fnal.gov/ntep/f98/projects/bnl/seed2mgb/index.html) Elementary students find the best conditions for growing plants comparing hydroponics and conventional methods. Students interact with EMO botanists (a sixth grade partner class) and a partner school in Africa. They develop an understanding of how math, science and technology can be used to solve real-life problems.
- SIMply Prairie

(quarknet.fnal.gov/e-labs) Students experience the environment of scientific collaborations in this series of investigations into high-energy cosmic rays. From start to finish this is a student-led, teacher-guided project. The Cosmic Ray e-Lab provides an opportunity for students to:
- Do authentic research to access, process and publish data, report and share their results as online posters, and have online discussions with one another about their work.
- Experience the environment of scientific collaborations.
- Possibly to make real contributions to a burgeoning scientific field.
- Looking for Higgs
(quarknet.fnal.gov/run2/run2_teacher.shtml) Students learn how to identify B mesons and W bosons and find the W mass. They can also calculate B lifetime as a "special project." Students use the ideas of conservation of energy and momentum, the effects of magnetic fields on charged particles, relativistic effects and ways to analyze large amounts of data. What the students learn from the first two investigations culminates in the search for the Higgs boson.
- Measuring the Effect of a Single Photon
(quarknet.fnal.gov/projects/pmt/index.shtml) This site presents information regarding photomultiplier tubes. Students can study data plots to determine the best mathematical fit to the presented data.
