EOS Validation Program

Validation of EOS Land Products Workshop

Date: Tuesday, 23 - September 1997
From: Chris Justice (justice@kratmos.gsfc.nasa.gov)
Subject: EOS LAND VALIDATION Coordination Meeting - Dec 3/5

The NEW dates for the EOS SWAMP LAND Validation Coordination Workshop are DECEMBER 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Please note the dates in your calendar.

The meeting will be held in the GSFC area - we are currently looking for rooms. An email will be sent out in the next couple of weeks with an updated agenda and meeting logistics.

The objective of the proposed two and a half-day meeting is to identify opportunities for validation coordination across the AM platform instruments and Landsat for the LAND community for the first two to three years after launch.

The LAND community is defined as those concerned with Land algorithms, Land 'in-situ' measurements, and Land/Atmosphere interactions.

The meeting will consist of:

  1. presentations from the newly selected P.I.'s as to their proposed contribution to AM instrument validation, the data they are proposing to collect and how it will be managed and what expectations they have from the instruments and EOS-DIS in terms of data provision and an outline of their proposed work plan and schedule
  2. presentations on the current validation plans from the EOS land instruments;
  3. presentations on relevant in-situ measurement programs from the IDS teams.

An additional aim of the meeting will be to explore opportunities for integrating EOS Validation into a broader global network of instrumented sites.

Please forward this message to those who you feel should attend this meeting particularly from other in situ networks that might be interested in cooperation.

NB.

Level 1B data radiometric calibration and validation across instruments is a sufficiently large topic to warrant a separate meeting.

Focus for this meeting will be on validation of the Level 2, 3 and 4 EOS land products (including snow and ice) and where appropriate will address atmospheric characterization for land sensing.
