CSCOR uses a mix of regional ecosystem and site-specific studies to address pressing national issues affecting coastal communities. Such an approach allows CSCOR to understand and address complex coastal issues within a coordinated, interdisciplinary framework. CSCOR focuses its efforts on five key stressors or causes of ecosystem change: climate change, extreme natural events, pollution, invasive species, and land and resources use. All CSCOR programs are undertaken with the understanding that coastal issues are complex, and that these stressors interact with one another. CSCOR research seeks to understand the impacts that these stressors have on coastal ecosystems, including the human dimension of social and economic impacts. CSCOR is ideally suited to study these problems in a holistic framework that accounts for the interactions between the different stressor categories (i.e., multiple stressors).

CSCOR Projects on NCCOS Project Explorer

The NCCOS Project Explorer (NPE) is the search mechanism for retrieving information on the scientific research projects conducted or sponsored by NCCOS. Searches can be performed by geographic location, ecosystem, or stressor. An advanced search module is available for more detailed searches, including by keyword.

Using the NCCOS Project Explorer you can:

  • Read project progress reports
  • Obtain links to research web sites
  • Get contact information for investigators
