The TBI program provides service coordination, life skills training, and crisis interim services to residents of New Mexico. Individuals are eligible for services if they have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, which has been confirmed by a physician or psychologist. TBI is defined as an assault to the brain from an outside physical force, which has caused temporary or permanent diminished cognitive or physical impairment. A TBI may, or may not, cause total functional disability and/or psychosocial disorientation. TBI services are available statewide. Persons who reside in institutions are not eligible to receive services. The TBI Program is funded, in part, from a $5 fee that is added to all New Mexico traffic violation tickets.
