Description | The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.
The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Title | Intervention (Dawn Farm Education Series) |
Description | "Intervention" will be presented by Jeff and Debra Jay; internationally-known Intervention specialists and chemical dependency specialists, speakers, and trainers. They are co-authors of the best-selling book, "Love First: A New Approach to Intervention for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction." Debra Jay also co-authored "Aging and Addiction" and "No More Letting Go: The Spirituality of Taking Action Against Alcoholism and Drug Addiction." Jeff also co-authored the recently published "At Wit's End," a book on co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders. Jeff and Debra Jay's "Love First" Intervention process teaches people who care how to use love and honesty to break through the denial that keeps a chemically dependent individual locked in the downward spiral of his/her disease. This program will describe how "Love First" can "raise the bottom" to create a moment of clarity that allows a chemically dependent person to accept help. The audience will have the opportunity to learn how this effective model for intervention can help chemically dependent people find their way to recovery! This program will bring PRACTICAL INFORMATION, HELP and HOPE to anyone who cares about a chemically dependent person, and to anyone who wants to learn more about the intervention process. Description | The Dawn Farm Jamboree is an annual family event with free admission and free activities for all ages, including live music, hayrides, animals to pet, pony rides, a popular midway and other activities for children, and tours of the 74 acre farm. There will be live and silent auctions with a variety of donated goods and services, including trips, art, electronics, and hundreds more items. Our Founders Day award will be presented to a local person who has been a strong supporter of recovery and of Dawn Farm. This event is a combination fundraiser and friend-raiser; our Jamboree provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the tremendous power of recovery in the lives of individuals, families, and our entire community; and to raise funds that enable Dawn Farm to continue our mission to provide services for those who have no other resources. Dawn Farm welcomes the community to join us and share in celebrating our successes in helping addicts and alcoholics become part of the recovering community. Dawn Farm is the only residential treatment program in the area, and funds raised from the auctions will help defray costs or services and treatment for individuals who have no other resources. |

Description | Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a FREE, ongoing, two-part workshop series designed to help participants learn to understand, identify and address adolescent alcohol/other drug problems. Part 1 is presented on the first Tuesday of each month from October through June, provides information on how to understand and recognize the signs of a teen substance abuse problem, and includes a short video. Part 2 is presented on the second Tuesday of each month from October through June, provides information on what should and should not be done when a teen substance abuse problem is recognized, and concludes with an open talk by a teen speaker in recovery. The series is presented by Ronald E. Harrison, SW, and is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Livingston/Washtenaw Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Consortium, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Mission Services.
