Determining Your Target Audience (1 of 2)

In order to maximize the usability and relevance of the content on your Web site, you must define your target audience to determine what content to place on-line and how best to present it. The process of determining the audience may involve several steps, including surveys and interviews.

Target Audience

To determine your site’s target audience, you must first define a list of potential users. You can accomplish this by doing the following:

  • Determine who will be interested in your content. Include all those groups that might have some interest in the content.
  • Decide which of these groups you can serve practically.
  • Find out the percentage of your potential user groups that are Web-enabled (most of them at this point) and, more importantly, will actually use the Web to get information.

Good information on target audiences can be found at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Web site (link opens in a new browser window).
