Universities play an important role in public-private partnerships, by bringing frontier research knowledge and ideas to ATP projects, and providing critical access to expertise of key university personnel.

  • Three out of five ATP awards involve university participation. Over 170 different universities represent about 650 instances of university participation in ATP projects.
    • 50 percent of all single company projects involve a university as a subcontractor.
    • Approximately 70 percent of all joint venture projects involve a university as a joint venture partner or subcontractor.

  • Universities have received an estimated $200M through ATP awards (almost 10 percent of total ATP funds). Universities can participate in ATP projects either as subcontractors or as additional partners in a joint venture. Almost 9 out of 10 universities participate as subcontractors.
