DOE Recognizes New Mexico Resident with President’s Volunteer Award
In Honor of National Volunteer Week

KNOXVILLE, TN – In honor of National Volunteer Week, today Department of Energy (DOE) Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management Jim Rispoli recognized J.D. Campbell with the President’s Volunteer Service Award during a ceremony in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Dr. Campbell is a DOE employee who has volunteered over 100 hours of community service as chair of the Northern New Mexico Site-Specific Advisory Board, providing advice and recommendations to DOE’s environmental restoration and waste management activities at the Los Alamos site since 2004.

“Those honored this week set a high standard for all Americans and should be proud of their service, sacrifice and generosity.  We are very fortunate, as a nation, and the Department of Energy recognizes the importance of volunteerism.  I want to thank J.D., volunteers honored this week, and volunteers nationwide who play a key role in making this nation so great,” Secretary Bodman said.

Dr. Campbell is the president of JDC Consultants, Inc.  His professional experience includes a 33-year career with Woodward-Clyde Consultants and URS, where he was a Senior Principal.  He continues to provide strategic consultation, project leadership and expert litigation support services for a variety of engineering projects.  Dr. Campbell has been engaged in providing waste management services and geotechnical engineering worldwide.  His expertise lies in assessing the performance and impact of existing facilities on the environment and developing appropriate and cost-effective remedial programs.  Dr. Campbell has characterized, developed and implemented remediation plans for many industrial hazardous waste facilities, including landfills, lagoons, and contaminant plumes.  He has extensive experience as an expert witness in regulatory and in public hearings and court proceedings.

Dr. Campbell earned his B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois.  He lives in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico.

As part of a broader effort to recognize individuals in honor of National Volunteer Week, Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman and senior DOE leadership traveling the country this week, will present a total of 14 DOE employees with the President’s Volunteer Award.
