Minnesotans have historically provided strong support for the work of charitable organizations, whose programs and services support our community’s prosperity and advancement. Organizations that solicit funds in the state of Minnesota are required to register with the Charities Division of the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. The charities database allows the public quick access to this useful information.

Citizen Review Panels
Human Services Department  
Citizen review panels provide opportunities for community members to play an integral role in ensuring the child protection system is protecting children from abuse and neglect and helping find permanent homes for them. While the panels are required to review the state’s Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) plan, they also evaluate different aspects of the child protection system in their own communities.

Civil Commitment Training
Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Ombudsman Office  
The Civil Commitment Training and Resource Center (the Center) is part of the Office of the Ombudsman for Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. The Center has been developed to assist persons who want training and information regarding the Civil Commitment and Treatment Act. The Center can provide individualized training, information, referral and advocacy.

Consumer -Directed Initiative

Consumer-direction gives people who need long-term care more choice and control over supports and services they receive. Minnesota is looking to provide consumer-direction across all home and community-based programs so people with disabilities and chronic illness may lead self-directed lives.

Consumer Fraud

Every Year Minnesotans lose hundreds and thousands of dollars to scam artists, bogus telemarketers, fake contests, and other forms of consumer fraud. The Attorney General's Office accepts complaints helps citizens recover their losses. Learn to spot the telltale signs of consumer fraud.

Day Training and Habilitation - MSOCS

Minnesota State Operated Community Services (MSOCS) day training and habilitation services engage in large or small contracts to provide a wide variety of services to businesses, including offices, construction companies, hotels, restaurants, movie theaters and other firms. You can contract for a crew or directly hire a supported employee. Work can be performed at your business or at MSOCS secure sites.

Day Training and Habilitation Program - Human Services

Day Training and Habilitation (DT&H) are licensed supports to help adults develop and maintain life skills, participate in community life, and engage in proactive and satisfying activities. Eligibility requirements include being 18 or over, diagnosed with developmental disabilities, and going through a screening process.

Death and Serious Injury Reporting
Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Ombudsman Office  
An agency, facility, or program is required to report to the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Ombudsman Office the death or serious injury of a client within 24 hours of the incident.

Department of Corrections, Education Unit
Corrections Department  
The central office education unit is responsible for oversight of offender education in adult and juvenile facilities. Adult Basic Education, special education, high school diploma, GED, vocational, parenting, life skills, critical thinking skills, transitional programming, and offender job placement are all available through correctional education.

Emergency Food Programs
Human Services Department  
Department of Human Service's Office of Economic Opportunity emergency food programs are delivered by community-based, advocacy organizations and food shelves around the state of Minnesota. The programs aim to provide food to low-income individuals and families through Minnesota Food Shelves, soup kitchens, and other on-site meal programs.

Website of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for Minnesota. Includes information and plans such as the Minnesota Emergency Operations Plan, which provides the basis for a multi-state agency response to a major emergency/disaster.

Home and Community Services
Human Services Department  
Minnesota Department of Human Services's Aging & Adult Services staff work to help seniors find the resources they need to continue living in their homes for as long as possible. Aging & Adult Services develops policy and administers programs such as Long-Term Care Consultation, Elderly Waiver and Alternative Care that aim to keep older Minnesotans independent in the community.

Homeless/Shelter Programs

Homeless Programs receive funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State of Minnesota. Eligible service providers include transitional housing programs, Community Action Agencies, Indian Tribal Governments, local governments, shelters, non-profit service providers, and statewide migrant farm-workers’ organizations.

Minnesota Extended Treatment Options (METO) serves Minnesotans who have a developmental disability and exhibit severe behavior problems that present a risk to public safety.

STAR Program

A System of Technology to Achieve Results (STAR) is located within the Minnesota Department of Administration. STAR's mission is to help ALL MINNESOTANS with disabilities gain access to and acquire the assistive technology they need to live, learn, work and play.

Statewide Independent Living Council
Statewide Independent Living Council  
Minnesota Statewide Independent Living Council (MN SILC) provides statewide planning and policies necessary to provide Independent Living Services. The Council values consumer control, peer support, self-help, self determination, equal access, and individual and system advocacy, in order to maximize the leadership, empowerment, independence, and productivity of individuals with disabilities, and the integration and full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of American society.
