Colorado Disability Program Navigator Model



Disability Program Navigators guide Workforce Center Staff in helping people with disabilities access and navigate the complex provisions of various programs that impact their ability to gain/retain employment.

Disability Program Navigators are funded by the Colorado Workforce Development Council through a federal grant from Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Labor.

What does a Disability Program Navigator do?

  • Assist staff working with individuals with disabilities to secure and access services and supports needed to obtain and maintain employment
  • Build infrastructure at the Workforce Center to serve persons with disabilities
  • Troubleshoot problem areas through instruction and advocacy
  • Work closely with and provide referrals to Benefit Planners
  • Conduct outreach to underserved groups
  • Provide peer mentoring
  • Provide guidance to Workforce Center staff to utilize assistive technology
  • Provide information on resources, including linkages to specific services within the community
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals within the Workforce Center and to Community Partners
