Hydrologic Network and Analysis Program
The USGS's Hydrologic Network and Analysis Program, often called
the Collection of Basic Record (CBR) Program, is a direct appropriation
from Congress. This program supports three types of stations.
- The first are index staton for documenting the long-term flow
characteristics and trends on climatic and other natural variations.
The USGS is the primary funding source for these stations that are
part of the Benchmark and Hydroclimatic Data Network (HCDN).
- The second are stations needed for the monitoring or documenting
Supreme Court Decrees and river basin compacts to which the U.S.
government is a signatory.
- The third are stations that are part of the flood-forecasting network
of the National Weather Service (NWS) or support the mission of other
bureaus of the Department of Interior or the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Within this catagory, a station has a higher priority if it supports the
mission of more than one agency.
