AMES LABORATORY SCIENTISTS TO APPEAR
ON WOI RADIO’S “TALK OF IOWA” PROGRAM

Show to Focus on Ames Laboratory’s 60th Anniversary

AMES, Iowa –AMES, Iowa – Three Ames Laboratory scientists will appear on “Talk of Iowa” on WOI-AM 640 on Thursday, May 17, 2007, from 11 a.m. to noon.  Hosted by Katherine Perkins, the show will cover a wide variety of topics, including the 60th anniversary of the Ames Laboratory, which is being celebrated in 2007; the discovery and design of new materials at Ames Laboratory and the importance of this research to our nation’s effort to address energy concerns; and lead-free solder, an Ames Laboratory innovation that is key to helping Europe become lead-free. 

Appearing on Talk of Iowa will be:

  • Dr. Alan Goldman, interim director, Ames Laboratory and Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the Iowa State University Department of Physics and Astronomy
  • Dr. Paul Canfield, Ames Laboratory senior physicist and Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the Iowa State University Department of Physics and Astronomy
  • Dr. Iver Anderson, senior metallurgist, Ames Laboratory and adjunct professor, Materials Science and Engineering, Iowa State University


Ames Laboratory, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2007, is operated for the Department of Energy by Iowa State University.  The Lab conducts research into various areas of national concern, including the synthesis and study of new materials, energy resources, high-speed computer design, and environmental cleanup and restoration.
