AMES LABORATORY COSPONSORS APPLIED MATHEMATICS CONFERENCE
Participants seek solutions in materials science and fluid dynamics
AMES, Iowa – Mathematicians, physicists and engineers will come together to discuss applied mathematics at a conference cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory. The “Computational and Mathematical Aspects of Materials and Fluids” conference will be held April 13-14 on the Iowa State University campus.
Researchers from across the country will give presentations on thin films, bulk materials and multiscale modeling, as well as on waves and fluids. Ames Lab scientists presenting at the conference are Cai-Zhuang Wang, senior physicist, and Costas Soukoulis, senior physicist and ISU Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Jim Evans, Ames Lab senior scientist and ISU professor of mathematics, co-organized the conference.
Conference organizers hope that connecting experts from different fields will help produce novel solutions to today’s challenging problems in materials science and fluid dynamics.
Ames Laboratory, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2007, is
operated for the Department
of Energy by Iowa State
University. The Lab conducts research into various areas
of national concern, including energy resources, high-speed
computer design, environmental cleanup and restoration, and
the synthesis and study of new materials.
