Medi-Link International, U.K. , Agrees to Settle Administrative Charges for Failing to Keep Required Records

The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced that Medi-Link International of the United Kingdom has agreed to pay a $17,500 administrative penalty to settle charges that it failed to comply with reporting and recordkeeping requirements in violation of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) charged that, between June 15, 1999 and August 15, 2002 , Medi-Link International failed to maintain the required paperwork for seven transactions subject to the EAR. The EAR requires that certain export control records be kept for a period of five years.

BIS enforces U.S. export control laws to advance U.S. national security, foreign policy and economic interests. This case illustrates the importance of persons involved in export transactions maintaining the required records .
