Rural Implications of Medicare's Post-Acute Care Transfer Payment Policy

This report presents results of a study conducted to examine the financial impact of the Medicare 10-Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) Post-Acute Transfer (PAC) Policy and the expansion of the policy to an additional 21 DRGs. It provides information about the policy, which began in October 1998, paid acute care hospital cases in 10 DRGs as transfers to a PAC instead of discharges.
