Paul J. Seligman, MD, MPH

Dr. Seligman is the Associate Director for Safety Policy and Communication in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). He directs the program responsible for the Drug Safety Board and the MedWatch Program, and plays a central role in implementing safety and communications initiatives that affect the entire drug regulatory enterprise. Dr. Seligman previously served as the Director of the Office of Pharmacoepidemiology and Statistical Sciences in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, where he directed the agency's post-marketing drug surveillance, epidemiology, and biostatistics program.

Prior to joining the FDA in July 2001, Dr. Seligman served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Studies at the Department of Energy where he was responsible for occupational medicine, health surveillance, and epidemiology related to nuclear weapons production nationally and internationally. From 1983-1993, he worked at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and served as Chief of the Medical Section of NIOSH's Surveillance Branch from 1988-1993. Dr. Seligman is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service. He is board certified in internal medicine, occupational medicine, public health, and general preventive medicine.
