Borrower Status Form OE·756 (Deferment Form.)
HEAL BULLETIN # 11

MAR  2 6 1980

TO:    LENDERS PARTICIPATING IN THE HEALTH EDUCATION ASSISTANCE  LOAN (HEAL) PROGRAM

Borrower Status Form OE·756 (Deferment Form.) The HEAL borrower who has commenced repayment may defer the repayment of principal during periods of authorized deferments, while participating in an approved internship/residency training period, or while attending a HEAL school or a participating school in the Guaranteed Student Loan Program. Borrowers are permitted to defer installments of principal for periods not in excess of three years for authorized deferments. However, the borrower may participate in more than one deferment activity (military, Peace Corps, National Health Service Corps, etc.), but may only be deferred for a specific activity one time.

Lenders should also request prior loan recipients to complete a Borrower Status Form while the borrower is in·school , but not borrowing under the provisions of the HEAL Program.

Interns and residents must obtain the approval of the authorizing official for their particular agency prior to being granted deferment. During periods when the borrower is participating in an approved residency/internship the authorizing official at the training site must indicate in Part II of the borrower Status Form which agency approved the program.

If you have future questions, please contact the HEAL Program staff, at (202) 245·2201.
