The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will hold a public hearing in connection with its general factfinding investigation concerning Overview and Analysis of the Economic Impact of U.S. Sanctions With Respect to India and Pakistan on Tuesday, June 22, 1999. The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Hearing Room, ITC Building, 500 E Street SW, Washington, DC.

The ITC, an independent, nonpartisan, factfinding federal agency, is conducting the investigation at the request of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means. The Commission will submit its report to the Committee by September 17, 1999.

Further information about this investigation is available on the ITC's Internet site at www.usitc.gov. Users are referred to a Federal Register notice issued on April 19, 1999 (posted under "notices"), and a news release issued on April 19, 1999 (posted under "News Releases"). The witness list is expected to be available by Monday, June 21, 1999; when available, it will be posted in the "This Week" section of the Internet site.

ITC factfinding investigations may cover any trade- or tariff-related topic. They are generally conducted at the request of the U.S. Trade Representative, the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, or the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means; the Commission may also conduct investigations on its own motion. ITC factfinding reports compile and analyze information related to the subject of the investigation; however, they do not draw conclusions or make recommendations.
