ALCOAST 330/08 COMDTNOTE 5351 SUBJ: LEADERS DESIRED - LEADERSHIP ADVISORY COUNCIL SOLICITATION 1. THE COMMANDANTS LEADERSHIP ADVISORY COUNCIL (LAC) IS SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR NEW MEMBERS. A TOTAL OF FOUR NEW MEMBERS WILL BE SELECTED AND WILL LIKELY INCLUDE ONE ENLISTED, ONE CIVILIAN, AND TWO OFFICERS (W2-O4). LAST YEAR WE HAD OVER 90 APPLICANTS SEEK SELECTION TO THE COUNCIL. 2. THE LAC WAS CREATED IN 2000 TO GATHER LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CONCERNS, EVALUATE THE CG LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION BACK TO THE FIELD. THE LAC ALSO PROVIDES INPUT ON A WIDE RANGE OF LEADERSHIP ISSUES DIRECTLY TO THE COMMANDANT. SPECIFICALLY, THE LAC IS CHARGED WITH REVIEWING AND ASSESSING LEADERSHIP PRACTICES, IDENTIFYING LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT BEST PRACTICES, AND PROPOSING AND RECOMMENDING LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES. 3. THE LAC CONSISTS OF STANDING MEMBERS SERVING IN POSITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ALONG WITH SEVERAL NOMINATED MEMBERS WHO ARE SELECTED TO REPRESENT A BROAD CROSS-SECTION OF THE COAST GUARD WORK FORCE. TO MAXIMIZE THE BREADTH OF THE GROUPS EXPERIENCE, MEMBERSHIP REFLECTS THE COAST GUARDS DIVERSITY OF RANK/GRADE, COMPONENT (ACTIVE DUTY, RESERVE, CIVILIAN, AUXILIARY), ACCESSION SOURCE, AND WORK EXPERIENCE. COMMANDS THAT SUBMIT NOMINATIONS ARE ASKED TO SUPPORT MEMBER ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS AND LAC-RELATED WORK IN BETWEEN MEETINGS. COMDT (CG-133) WILL FUND ASSOCIATED TAD COSTS TO ATTEND MEETINGS. 7. LAC MEMBERS MUST POSSESS HIGH LEVELS OF INITIATIVE, INTEGRITY, STRONG INTERPERSONAL SKILLS, AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS (VERBAL AND WRITTEN). MEMBERS ARE ASSIGNED WORK OUTSIDE THE SEMI- ANNUAL MEETINGS, INCLUDING RESEARCH, REVIEW OF LEADERSHIP RELATED MATERIAL, AND COMPLETING OTHER INITIATIVES IDENTIFIED BY THE COUNCIL. 8.
