SEC Supports Decision of Securities Markets to Observe National Day of Mourning for Former President Gerald R. Ford

Washington, D.C., Dec. 29, 2006 - The Securities and Exchange Commission strongly supports the markets' decision to honor the memory and historic contributions of former President Gerald R. Ford in observance of the national day of mourning. The decision that provides for closure of the equities markets and the early close of the bond markets on Jan. 2, 2007, was made by the markets in coordination with Commission staff.
