Records Transfer and Disposition Services
The Federal Records Centers receives over 1,700,000 cubic feet of transfers annually to our records centers. We recycle over 18,000 tons of paper each year, the equivalent of 300,000 trees. We accept both electronic and paper records and assist in vital records storage. Your agency's Federal records are stored in modern, compliant facilities, and are serviced by a professional National Archives staff expert in records management regulations and procedures. Whether you are transferring a single box or several truckloads of records to your Federal Records Center, you will find all the information you need on this page to ensure that your records are properly handled throughout their lifecycle. For more information on transfer and disposal services, please contact your local records center director or Markus Most at markus.most@nara.gov.

Transferring Unscheduled Records
Federal agencies may now transfer unscheduled records to FRCs. For more details on the procedures for transferring unscheduled records, please see our Frequently Asked Questions on this topic.
Transferring Active Files
The FRC can now accept transfers of active files from agencies seeking alternatives to in-house active file management. Records centers currently provide storage and service for active records to a number of Federal agencies at both the local and national levels.
FastPack
Feeling overwhelmed by the number of boxes you need to organize and transfer to your local FRC? With FastPack service, you can leave the packing and paperwork to your FRC staff. Many records centers offer reimbursable staff time to help agencies organize, document, and pack shipments. FastPack service covers preparation of the SF 135, packing of boxes, preparation of a boxed file inventory, and transportation to the records center. Free, no-obligation cost estimates are available.
Transferring Classified Records
The FRC provides secure storage of your agency's most sensitive records. Three records centers accept records containing classified National Security Information.
At agency request, most centers can store, for an additional fee, non-National Security records in a separate vault. Contact the records center in your region for more information about availability of these services.
Training
Local Federal Records Centers offer training on FRC services (including transfer and disposition procedures), either at records centers or onsite at agency facilities. Please contact your local FRC for more information. In addition, NARA's records management team offers a comprehensive certification course for Federal employees on records management.
