The Department of Cardiovascular Sciences (CS), Temple University School of Medicine, is being formed by combining the Sections of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery to create a single dynamic with linked clinical, educational and research interests. The Chairperson of CS will be a physician leader who will establish a culture that is people and service oriented and emphasizes team building, integrity, collaboration and a commitment to excellence. Academic rank will be commensurate with education and experience. This Chairperson will be expected to recruit and retain faculty with strong records in clinical care, research and/or education and to nurture the ongoing professional development of the entire faculty.
The new Chair will develop a robust research program, which will include close collaboration with TUSM’s Cardiovascular Research Center. S/he will also develop multi-disciplinary basic research programs, leading to clinical trials of new pharmaceuticals, devices or surgical procedures by members of the department.
The Chair of CS will serve as Medical Director of the Cardiovascular service line of Temple University Health System. In this capacity, s/he will foster an inter-disciplinary teaching program, emphasizing integration of medicine, surgery and research to treat all forms of cardiovascular disease with the most advanced techniques, while promoting a multi-disciplinary cardiovascular prevention program.
