National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health

OMH convened the second National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health January 9-11, 2006 in Washington, D.C. to celebrate 20 years of progress, challenges and opportunities.

The Summit brought together leaders from all levels of government, academia, public health, mental health, minority-serving institutions, and minority communities to advance key issues and opportunities for improving minority health and closing the health gap.

The landmark 1985 Report of the Secretary's Task Force on Black and Minority Health created OMH and served as an impetus for addressing health inequalities for racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. This Summit marked the 20th year since the establishment of OMH and was held to promote best practices and collaborative actions that are vital to improving minority health in the future.
