- Poverty level affects mental health status. Hispanics living below the poverty level, as compared to Hispanics over twice the poverty level, are twice as likely to report psychological distress.
- The death rate from suicide for Hispanic men is five times the rate for Hispanic women, in 2005.
- However, the suicide rate for Hispanics is half that of the Non-Hispanic White population.
- Suicide attempts for Hispanic girls, grades 9-12, were 60% higher than for White girls in the same age group, in 2005.
- Non-Hispanic Whites received mental health treatment 3 times more often than Hispanics, in 2005.
