Great American Plants

What makes a conservation plant great? Here the Plant Materials Program has chosen ten plants that all share a common heritage — they are native to the U.S. and have made superior contributions toward controlling soil erosion, feeding livestock and wildlife, and improving overall environmental health.

All these were evaluated and selected for their conservation abilities by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Plant Materials Program. The plants are just a few of the Program's stars and are highlighted here because of their extensive use and ecological dollar value, longevity and versatility.

For more information on conservation plants selected by the Plant Materials Program, visit our Plant Releases page.
