Prescription Drug Coverage

About Your Prescription Drug Coverage

Your LANL prescription drug benefit provides you with many choices and is designed to provide prescription drug reimbursement managed by UnitedHealthcare and administered by Medco.

The 2008 Prescription Drug List Guide (pdf) provides a complete description of drugs and payments available to help you understand your choices and make informed decisions regarding medications for you and your family. It also enables you to ask your doctor or pharmacist the right questions regarding your medication needs. The guide provides answers to some of the most common questions users ask, including

  • What are tier designations, and how do they affect what I actually pay at the pharmacy?
  • What is the difference between brand-name and generic drugs?
  • What are therapeutic alternatives?
  • When should I consider over-the-counter or nonprescription medications?
  • How do I find information on the UnitedHealthcare Web site?

Coverage and Costs

Each medical plan has its own list of covered drugs, called a plan formulary.
