Long-Term Care Insurance

About Long-Term Care Insurance

One of the biggest threats to your financial security can be the high cost of long-term care, which you may need if you suffer from chronic illness, injury, or frailty of old age. Such care can involve at-home assistance from a nurse or family member or care at a nursing home, assisted living facility, or adult day-care center.

Your standard health insurance plan typically provides little or no long-term care coverage—it was designed to cover hospital and doctor care, not extended or personal care. You need to purchase Long-Term Care insurance separately.

LANS Long-Term Health Care

LANS provides a voluntary Group Long-Term Care Insurance Plan, underwritten by John Hancock Life Insurance Company, to all full-time and part-time employees on U.S. payroll, actively working 17.5 or more hours per week and their eligible family members and retirees. All eligible participants (including eligible actively-at-work employees) are required to provide proof of good health to apply for coverage.

The objective of this program is to offer you affordable coverage that will provide meaningful benefits for most long-term care expenses, including care in your home or in a qualified adult day care center, assisted living facility, or nursing home. This insurance is intended to complement our health care plans by providing benefits for extended care resulting from long-term, chronic illnesses or injuries that Medicare and the LANS health care plans are not designed to cover.

For more information, you may visit the LANS Long-Term Care web site (username: lans; password: mybenefit) or you may call the John Hancock Customer Service Center at 1-800-903-0777 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
