NTSB TO RELEASE FACTUAL REPORTS ON EMERY DC-8 AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT
  



As part of its continuing investigation into the crash of an Emery Worldwide Airlines DC-8 aircraft (N8079U) near Rancho Cordova, California on February 16, 2000, the National Transportation Safety Board will open a public docket and release a series of factual reports on Thursday, August 23, 2001, at 11:00 am (EDT).

The DC-8 aircraft, carrying three crewmembers, crashed while attempting to return for landing shortly after departing Mather Airport in Sacramento, California on a scheduled cargo flight to Dayton, Ohio. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and post-crash fire. There were no survivors.

The information to be released is factual in nature and does not provide any analysis. It will include investigative group reports in the following areas - Operations/Human Performance, Airworthiness, Powerplants, Flight Data Recorder, Maintenance Records, Aircraft Performance, Maintenance Inspection, and Hazardous Materials.

Additional material will be added to the docket as it becomes available. Analysis of the accident, along with conclusions and a determination of probable cause, will come at a later date when the final report on the investigation is completed.

For news media representatives, a CD-ROM (designed to run on Windows 95) containing the docket material will be available from the Office of Public Affairs, NTSB Headquarters (6th floor), 490 L’Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC, beginning at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 23, 2001 (EDT).
