Artist Rendering of the Capitol Dome Model

An eleven-foot model of the Capitol Dome
With the opening of the Capitol Visitor Center comes the opportunity for a new, 16,500 square foot exhibition hall dedicated to the story of Congress and the Capitol, designed by Ralph Appelbaum and Associates. The exhibition is organized into sections, including a thematic look at our nation's ideals through the display of original documents from the National Archives and the Library of Congress. Original artifacts, video, and architectural models illustrate the history of Congress and of the Capitol building.

The House Theater and Senate Theater present brief films about each of these two bodies of Congress, as well as live feeds to the House and Senate when they are in session. Interactive computer stations allow visitors to investigate Congress as an institution and take a "virtual tour" of the Capitol. These and other sections of the exhibit provide an unprecedented opportunity for visitors to learn about the legislative branch.
