About ESRL: FAQs

What is ESRL?

ESRL, the Earth System Research Laboratory, was formed in 2005 through the consolidation of six NOAA research organizations. ESRL provides an integrated research focus to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's "whole-Earth" operational and information service mission.

How do I visit ESRL?

See Visiting ESRL for maps and directions. See Tour Information for educational tours of the Laboratory and Boulder Campus facilities.

What is the Earth system?

The Earth as a whole is an integrated system of oceanic, atmospheric and ecological interactions. Understanding these integrated processes is necessary to assess issues related to climate change, ozone depletion, air quality and weather prediction.
