Seeking Input on the Draft 2005-2010 Strategic Plan

On behalf of our Board of Directors, I am pleased to let you know that a draft of the Corporation’s 2005 – 2010 Strategic Plan is available on our website http://www.nationalservice.gov.

I’d like to thank the hundreds of people from our national service network -- state commissions, grantees, and other stakeholders -- who discussed ideas for the plan with us in meetings and conference calls in recent months. We are very interested in hearing your feedback and we hope you will review the draft plan and let us know what you think by August 31. Specifically, I’d like you to consider the following questions in providing your input:

  • Does the document express the spirit and history of service while also explaining why these programs are critical today?

  • Are the focus areas appropriate cross-program priorities for the agency for the next five years?

  • Under the focus areas, have we identified strong strategies and targets?

  • Will this Strategic Plan help you in your future planning?

  • Do you like the new draft mission statement for the Corporation: “Improving lives, strengthening communities, and fostering civic engagement though volunteering and service.”

There are a number of ways in which you can give us your ideas:

You can provide your feedback at the National Conference for Volunteering and Service in Washington, DC from August 4-6. If you’re attending, please stop the Corporation Marketplace in the Exhibit Hall to pick up a copy of the draft plan and provide your input. For more information on registering for this conference, please go to http://www.volunteeringandservice.org/.

Once the board has approved the plan, we will print hard copies and post an electronic copy on our website. We will be glad to send you a copy if you include an address with your feedback.

Thank you for all of the good ideas you have provided to date. I look forward to receiving your thoughts on this draft and releasing a Strategic Plan we can all use to achieve our mission of improving lives, strengthening communities, and fostering civic engagement.

Sincerely,
