Leonard Skiles
Skiles began his career at NCUA in 1973 as a staff attorney. He has also served
as deputy general counsel and president of the Asset Management and
Assistance Center. Prior to his appointment as Executive Director in
February 2001, Skiles served two years as regional director for the
Austin, Texas office. He had previously served as regional director
of that office in the 1980s.
Prior to joining NCUA, Skiles served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was with the
1st Marine Division, Republic of Vietnam. He was
also stationed at Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, Calif., as the
deputy staff judge
advocate and with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp
Lejeune, N.C., as a trial attorney and special court martial judge.
Skiles is a retired
Marine Corps Reserve Colonel.
Skiles received a bachelor’s degree from the University
of Georgia in 1966 and a juris doctor degree from the University’s
law school in 1968. He has received a number of awards and honors,
including a recent recognition by the NCUA Board as “One of the Agency’s
Finest” for his exemplary performance as a leader and manager. Skiles
and his wife, Sheila, have two sons and are active in numerous community
activities.
