UPTON, NY - Contemporary folksinger, guitarist and songwriter James O’Malley will give a concert at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory on Friday, October 3, at 7 p.m. at the Brookhaven Center. Sponsored by the BNL Music Club, the concert is open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.

The stories behind O'Malley's songs - some humorous, others introspective - range from a tribute to the rescue workers at the World Trade Center to the adventurous tale of two boys who sneak out of the house at night. His influences include Tim Hardin, who he once jammed with as an 18-year-old, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, Mickey Newbury, Donovan, and The Beatles.

O’Malley has produced two CDs on his own Gable Wing label and has a third on the way. He has performed at many local venues and music festivals including Carnegie Recital Hall, The Brokerage, and the Summer Festival at Heckscher Park, and has been featured on radio stations across the country. Previously a stained glass craftsman, O'Malley is currently a rigging supervisor at Brookhaven Lab.

Tickets cost $10 and may be purchased through www.ticketweb.com or at the door. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. For more information call 631 344-5139.

The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
